Leipzig, 05/04/2022. ALVARA | Digital Solutions successfully supports the Stadt- und Kreissparkasse Leipzig and its subsidiary HEROS in process optimization in the area of cash acceptance and processing. The volume of coins and banknotes remains consistently high, leading to increased efforts for cash handling, storage, and transportation. Therefore, in 2020, the Sparkasse Leipzig decided to optimize the safebag procedure with ALVARA | Digital Solutions as a partner.
After assessing all cash processes, the Sparkasse Leipzig and HEROS aimed to enhance the cash service in the branches through the subsidiary HEROS as a unique feature. With optimized cash processes, the operations were also to be made safer and more streamlined. Furthermore, manual and redundant tasks needed to be automated. To represent integrated cash processes, the IT infrastructure of Sparkasse Leipzig was to include HEROS's work steps.
During the solution selection, the Sparkasse chose ALVARA ICC and successfully implemented it in all branches. This now allows for digitally documented receipt of customer safebags, including receipt issuance and handover to HEROS as a cash-in-transit service provider (CIT). The customer data recorded at the counter is electronically transmitted to the CIT and displayed at HEROS's counting workstation for processing and counting. "Since HEROS uses ALVARA's Cash Center Software, no additional data entry effort is required at the CIT. This reduces sources of error," describes ALVARA | Digital Solutions Managing Director Steven Schwarznau. After counting, HEROS creates a booking file for Sparkasse Leipzig.
The safebag procedure supports today's processes from safebag receipt to counting. "Numerous internal processes could be streamlined and represented electronically. The automated processes mean noticeably less effort for the employees," explains Steven Schwarznau. Today, Sparkasse Leipzig can electronically document and track the entire process of container receipt (Track & Trace).
"In just one year of using the safebag procedure, we were able to accept and forward 22,037 mixed-money safebags and 31,857 coin safebags with the new processes in the cash centers," summarizes Frank Detlef Mayrle, Director of Special Tasks at Sparkasse Leipzig and Managing Director of HEROS. "The total amount of customer deposits is a proud 158,154,935.13 Euros and a coin weight of nearly 110 tons. For us, this is a great achievement by the employees in the cash centers and at HEROS. With the new processes and the ALVARA solution, we look forward confidently to the increasing cash volume after the pandemic."
