Digitalization knows no borders: Globally transparent and secure key management with a virtual gatekeeper

Introduction to the 7th ALVARA INNOVATION DAYS on September 18 and 19 in Leipzig

Leipzig 29.06.2017. Worst-case scenarios for everyone: Paying at the supermarket checkout and not remembering the PIN of the EC card. Or: After work, finding the key isn't in the handbag as expected at the front door... Now you wish for someone to whisper the numbers in your ear or to open the door to your home effortlessly.

Banks and savings banks also know these situations from cash management and face a challenge. The companies DB Systel GmbH and Lock Your World GmbH & Co. KG developed a virtual concierge for this: pylocx - an independent locking system with an electronic key: pyKey.

The idea is simple: The pylocx locking system is seamlessly integrated into, for example, container doors, safes, ATMs, or server cabinets, and the pyKey is transferred to the respective responsible person. Through the DB SmartAssist App, this person receives a one-time code on their smartphone, which they transfer by holding the phone to the NFC interface of the pyKEY, thus opening the lock. The DB SmartAssist App determines who receives authorization to unlock the lock at any given time.

This eliminates the need for physical custody of a lock secret and can quickly be transferred to other employees or service providers - forgetting is impossible. Pylocx can be used both indoors and outdoors at temperatures down to -40 °C worldwide. The pyKey can power itself and is thus independent of batteries and maintenance-free. If the pyKey is lost, it is immediately protected against misuse, even if no one notices the loss.

The system records all access, making it possible to transparently track assignments. The range of applications is large: whether in safes or cash machines in retail, in safe boxes to send medications only to a specific person, or for home use.
